Skin Tag and Mole Removal

What is Skin Tag and Mole Removal?

Moles and skin tags are common along the face, neck, and body. While most are benign, the location of a mole or a skin tag can cause discomfort when it chafes against clothes or skin. It can also create a cosmetic issue, making you feel self-conscious about your appearance. Fortunately, skin tags and moles can be safely and effectively removed. Our skin specialists use precision technology and individualised techniques to create a smooth result when removing moles, small growths, and skin tags. We also perform excisions and biopsies where necessary. To help you achieve your health and beauty goals, let’s take a closer look at what skin tags and moles are and how our removal procedures are performed.

What are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are small and raised growths that are commonly found in skin folds. They can also grow where skin chafes together, such as the armpits or groin. While the exact cause of these tiny growths is unknown, they can be removed without invasive surgery if it is bothering you or causing discomfort.

What is the Difference Between a Skin Tag and a Mole?

A skin tag is typically the same colour as your skin and develops because of chafing in the creases or folds of your body. It can also form with hormonal changes in pregnancy.

Moles are dark in colour and develop across the body. Moles can also present in different sizes, including clusters, and may be flat or raised. While many moles are benign, some can change colour, shape, and size and should be inspected by a skin cancer specialist.

Both moles and skin tags can cause embarrassment and irritation depending on their location. Whether you feel self-conscious about these annoying skin growths or they are causing discomfort, they can be removed with beautiful results at Bayside Cosmetic Medicine Clinic.

How are Moles and Skin Tags Removed/Treated?

Getting skin tags and moles removed by one of our skin specialists can prevent scarring and the risk of infection. Our specialists will examine a mole before its removal to determine whether it is suspicious. A biopsy and excision can further assess the mole if needed.

At Bayside Cosmetic Medicine Clinic, We Perform the Following Procedures:

  • Radiofrequency – Radiofrequency (RF) removes moles, small skin growths, and skin tags. It is a non-surgical and quick procedure that does not require stitches and minimises scarring. RF works by cauterising the wound site and reducing bleeding. Over time, the skin will return to its regular color.
  • Cryotherapy – Cryotherapy is a simple and effective approach to removing skin tags, raised brown spots, or small benign growths. Liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the growth, after which it will heal on its own. Depending on the type and size of the lesion, you may need more than one application to achieve the best results.
  • Surgery – When a mole needs to be excised, we will perform an excision. To maintain your comfort, a small amount of anaesthetic is injected around the mole. It is then shaved or cut out with a scalpel. Depending on the size of the wound, a few stitches may be necessary to close the site. This usually leaves a small scar that will fade over time.

Can a Skin Tag Return?

Treatment will permanently remove a skin tag; however, due to factors such as hormones and physical chafing between skin folds, new skin tags could develop in the same area or other regions of the body.

Can Moles or Skin Tags be Removed at Home?

Using home remedies, including pastes and clippers, can increase your risk of infection and scarring. It is not recommended that at-home procedures are used for the removal of moles and skin tags.
